OPERATOR OF OHIO STATE PARK RESORTS OFFERS INSIDER TIPS FOR PLANNING PERFECT MEETINGS
For Immediate Release
CAMBRIDGE, Ohio, January 28, 2008 - All too often, the format, food and activities at a meeting can feel the same regardless of the destination. Ohio State Park Resorts, located in some of the state's most picturesque destinations, have developed a way to help meeting planners break away from the familiar. It all starts with setting high expectations.
"We've all been to meetings hotels where there are similar-looking break set-ups lining a long conference center corridor," said Dianna Rom, regional sales director for Xanterra Parks & Resorts, operator of the resorts. "It feels and looks the same whether you are in Cleveland, Columbus or Cincinnati. We think meeting attendees should have more ownership of their meetings."
Rom and the rest of the sales team at Ohio State Park Resorts offer the following insider tips to help meeting planners plan perfect meetings.
Step One: Act like you own the place. Booking a meeting at an Ohio State Park Resort means you are in charge, just like you'd be in your own home. If you wish to have a lakeside coffee break or if you prefer a jungle theme for your luncheon, it can be arranged. "When you plan an event in your own home, it usually reflects your personality," said Rom. "We think you should be able to do the same thing when you plan a meeting."
Step Two: Think outside the resort. Ohio State Park Resorts have created an exclusive partnership with Corporate Quest, a leading executive team-building company. Corporate Quest's outdoor programs include a popular high ropes course at Mohican State Park Resort or a poolside icebreaker session at Maumee Bay State Park Resort.
Step Three: Stay connected. Most people cannot simply walk away from their offices without checking in periodically. Ohio State Park Resorts make checking in easy by offering a wireless network so meeting attendees can stay connected to their offices.
Step Four: Get physical. Bodies need exercise too, and Ohio State Park Resorts have a wide range of physical activities - golf, tennis, swimming, exercise facilities, hiking trails - to get the blood flowing.
Step Five: Save your company some money. Sometimes something as simple as planning a Sunday-through-Wednesday meeting vs. a Tuesday-through-Friday meeting can mean big savings. Ask what dates would be available at a better rate if your dates are flexible.
Step Six: Develop a theme. The meeting planners at Ohio State Park Resorts love a challenge, and they look at every event as a new adventure. With a little notice, the conference staff can find even the most unusual tools and props. They also know local talent such as musicians, singers, dancers, impersonators, actors, naturalists and lecturers who can enhance and build upon a theme.
Step Seven: Get everyone involved. Golf is still the most popular sporting activity for meetings, and there are golf courses available at or near all of the resorts. The resorts can arrange scrambles and lessons so even non-golfers can participate in a golf outing. Resorts offer a variety of other choices for group activities such as paintball at Hueston Woods State Park Resort, geocaching at Salt Fork State Park Resort, Walleyball at Maumee Bay State Park Resort and hiking at all of the resorts.
